I named it the gleaners, because that’s who I feel like right now. I have spent a year picking up bits of stuff here and there, not quite knowing what I’ll find and what I’ll be able to make of it. I want to write about how we consume and how we create, and what is important for us to collect along the way.
I have two nephews and like all kiddos I know, they collect all kinds of things in their pockets throughout the day. Once, on the way home from a day at the beach I was given a back scratcher by the 10-year-old. He had been carrying it around for weeks. When I tried scratching myself with it, I got a splinter, for it was a broken piece of bamboo that was beginning to shred. A week later he asked for it back; he needed to repurpose it as a something in his lego set. It served well there.
So, collecting new and old pieces, bringing them together, repurposing them, rearranging them. That’s what we’re always doing, I think. That’s what I am doing in any case.
I glean, I collect, I consume, I lay fallow, I create, and here is a place to share that all.
